Christmas is just around the corner and Knights Table is providing 1,110 families in need with a month of groceries, a turkey, and presents for children. You can help support this worthy cause on Saturday, Nov 5th by coming out to their Let’s Dance-Dance-Dance event. This fun afternoon with live performances will also celebrate 26 years that Knights Table has been serving the community.
All residents are encouraged to attend as audience members, or by making a donation. Admission is $10 or 10lbs of holiday canned goods (e.g. cranberry sauce, gravy, mashed potatoes etc).
Aside for preparing for Christmas, Knights Table serves hot breakfasts to children and seniors. It is estimated that 20 percent of children in Brampton under the age of 15 live in poverty. This program helps to address daily issues of hunger, and encourages seniors to socialize in the community. Knights Table is also running an after school tutoring program.
The organization is currently operating with nine full-time staff and 3,200 volunteers. On a yearly basis, 74,000 meals are provided, with 40 percent of their clients under the age of ten. 26 percent of the people Knights Table serves are homeless, or suffer from physical and mental health issues.
In this webisode, we speak with Knights Table representatives Lena Shaw and Joan Nordemann.
