Free virtual summer STEM program for middle school students

Sparkin’ STEM is a local student-run non-profit in Brampton that provides hands-on, STEM learning opportunities for middle school students. Each year, they host a large conference for participants to learn about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in a fun and engaging way.

Due to the pandemic, the group has shifted focus to free virtual programs and distance-learning workshops. The group’s founder, Binalpreet Kalra and Sponsorship Director Uttej Mannava spoke with us about their new initiatives.

Live Kahoot competitions are planned in June. Each Friday participants can join a Zoom call for a live quiz about pop culture, with gift cards for winners. July is dedicated to live STEM-based workshops. August will feature science experiment videos.

Alongside these programs, Sparkin’ STEM has a monthly newsletter with themed content geared for students. All these initiatives are free and are a great way to stay academically engaged during the summer.
