Is it time for residents in Peel Region to prepare for the arrival of the novel corona virus (COVID-19)? We asked Dr. Jessica Hopkins, the Medical Officer of Health for Peel Region how the Region is planning for a possible case of a resident or traveler with symptoms.
Dr. Hopkins provided a reassuring response about the preparedness of local hospitals, paramedics, schools and encouraged everyone to frequently wash their hands with warm water and soap and to stay home if you are sick.
Canada’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Theresa Tam on Monday raised the alarm bell saying that ” “it looks like it is going to be more and more difficult to contain this virus and it may well evolve into a pandemic.”
Dr. Tam is encouraging governments, businesses and individuals to prepare for an outbreak and possible pandemic.
An official from the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) in the United States warned today that “it’s not so much a question of if this will happen anymore, but rather more a question of exactly when this will happen and how many people in this country will have severe illness.”
